What this sheet is for

This sheet is for anyone following a structured cardio plan — running a 5 K, training for a half-marathon, building cycling base miles, or simply trying to hit a consistent weekly distance. Reach for it at the start of each month to map out planned sessions, then fill each cell in as the month unfolds, so you can see at a glance where you are against your targets.

How to use it

Write the month and year in the top-right field, then use the calendar grid to record each session: note the activity type, distance or duration, and any key detail such as perceived effort or terrain. Mark rest days clearly so they read as deliberate choices, not blank cells. In the This Month's Targets sidebar, write four concrete numbers — total distance, number of sessions, target long-session length, and a time or pace goal. Work through the Monthly Milestones checklist as each is achieved during the month. Use the Upcoming Race / Event box to keep your target date and venue visible throughout.

What is printed on the page

“Monthly Cardio Training Calendar” is laid out as grid with sidebar: a 7 × 6 month grid taking two-thirds of the width, with a sidebar of four goal lines, a six-item checklist and a reminder box. Under the title it reads “Track every cardio session, rest day, and weekly distance toward your endurance goal.”, and the line at the foot of the page says “If you miss a planned session, note the reason in the cell — patterns in missed workouts are as useful as completed ones.”.

The checklist items slot holds six entries — “Hit weekly distance target”, “Complete one long run/ride”, “Log resting heart rate”, “Try one new cardio type”, “Rest at least 4 days total” and “Record best session time” — so the sheet is already filled in for fitness rather than left as blank rows to label yourself.

The remaining labels on the page are “Month / Year” for the month label, “This Month's Targets” for the goals heading, “Monthly Milestones” for the checklist heading and “Upcoming Race / Event” for the reminder heading.

Two things about this particular grid with sidebar are settings rather than text, and “Monthly Cardio Training Calendar” has them set like this. Start sunday is off: start the week on Sunday instead of Monday. Reminder box is on: include the reminder box at the foot of the sidebar.

Tips

Write planned sessions in pencil and actual sessions in pen so deviations from your plan stay legible.

Use a single letter code — R for run, C for cycle, S for swim — to keep each calendar cell uncluttered.

Total the week's distance in the Saturday or Sunday cell each week; comparing rows takes seconds and shows trends immediately.

The other layouts in this set

“Monthly Cardio Training Calendar” is one of three sheets in this set, each a different fixed layout filled for the same topic. “Strength Training Monthly Log” uses the classic month grid layout and “Rest & Recovery Month Log” uses the day list layout. Pick by how you work: the layout decides how much you write and where, not what the sheet is about.
