What this sheet is for
This sheet is for the moment after a bill is paid, not before. Rather than tracking when things are due, it captures what you actually paid, on what date, and by which method — building a clear record of real outgoings across the month. It suits anyone who has been caught out by a forgotten direct debit or an amount that differed from the usual.
How to use it
Write each calendar date in the grid cells and note paid bills directly on the day they cleared. Use the Spending Targets lines in the sidebar to set a ceiling for grouped costs — utilities, subscriptions, loans — before the month begins. Work through End-of-Month Checks once the last date has passed, confirming every payment and filing any paper statements. Use the Outstanding Balance box to record anything unpaid at month-end and carry it forward.
What is printed on the page
“Monthly Bill Payment Log” is laid out as grid with sidebar: a 7 × 6 month grid taking two-thirds of the width, with a sidebar of four goal lines, a six-item checklist and a reminder box. Under the title it reads “Record amounts paid, dates cleared, and running total for one month.”, and the line at the foot of the page says “A bill marked 'paid' is only confirmed once the amount leaves your account — check your bank before ticking it off.”.
The checklist items slot holds six entries — “All bills marked paid”, “Late fees reviewed”, “Paper bills filed”, “Auto-pays confirmed”, “Total vs. budget noted” and “Next month's list started” — so the sheet is already filled in for bills rather than left as blank rows to label yourself.
The remaining labels on the page are “Month / Year” for the month label, “Spending Targets” for the goals heading, “End-of-Month Checks” for the checklist heading and “Outstanding Balance” for the reminder heading.
Two things about this particular grid with sidebar are settings rather than text, and “Monthly Bill Payment Log” has them set like this. Start sunday is off: start the week on Sunday instead of Monday. Reminder box is on: include the reminder box at the foot of the sidebar.
Tips
Write the payment method (direct debit, card, transfer) beside each amount so disputed charges are easy to trace.
If an auto-payment fails, cross it off in the grid and move it to the Outstanding Balance box immediately.
Compare your Spending Targets against the column totals at month-end to spot categories that consistently run over budget.
The other layouts in this set
“Monthly Bill Payment Log” is one of three sheets in this set, each a different fixed layout filled for the same topic. “Monthly Bill Due Date Tracker” uses the classic month grid layout and “Bill Amounts Due This Month” uses the day list layout. Pick by how you work: the layout decides how much you write and where, not what the sheet is about.
