What this sheet is for

This sheet is for the day an assignment is due — or the day before — when you need to move from blank page to submitted file without losing hours to disorganisation. It splits the day into three working phases, keeps a running record of what you planned versus what you finished, and ends with a short checklist to make sure nothing is missed before you hit submit.

How to use it

Start by filling in the due date at the top. Under Morning — Research & Outline, list every source you need to check and sketch the structure of each assignment. Move to Midday — Drafting and log each writing block with a target word count; cross tasks off as you complete them. In Afternoon/Evening — Edit & Submit, note specific proofreading jobs and the exact steps needed to format and upload your work. Before you shut down, tick every item in the Before You Close the Lid strip. Answer the reflection prompt honestly — it takes two minutes and improves the next crunch day.

What is printed on the page

“Assignment Crunch Day” is laid out as three sections: three stacked, labelled sections of checkbox lines (e.g. morning, midday, evening), a tick-off tracker strip of eight items and a two-line reflection at the foot. Under the title it reads “Plan, write, and submit one or more assignments in a single day.”, and the line at the foot of the page says “Save your work every 30 minutes and keep a separate tab open for your submission portal so nothing delays you at the end.”.

The section headings slot holds three entries — “Morning — Research & Outline”, “Midday — Drafting” and “Afternoon/Evening — Edit & Submit” — so the sheet is already filled in for study rather than left as blank rows to label yourself.

The section hints slot holds three entries — “List sources to read, questions to answer, and a rough structure for each piece.”, “Write first drafts without self-editing — note word counts as you finish each section.” and “Proofread, format references, check submission requirements, and upload.” — so the sheet is already filled in for study rather than left as blank rows to label yourself.

The tracker items slot holds eight entries — “Word count met”, “References”, “Spell-check”, “File named” and “Rubric checked” and three more — so the sheet is already filled in for study rather than left as blank rows to label yourself.

The remaining labels on the page are “Due date” for the date label, “Before You Close the Lid” for the tracker heading and “What slowed you down most today, and how will you prevent it next time?” for the reflection prompt.

Two things about this particular three sections are settings rather than text, and “Assignment Crunch Day” has them set like this. Tracker strip is on: include the eight-item tick-off strip. Reflection lines is on: include the two-line reflection at the foot.

Tips

Write your target word count next to each draft task so you can measure progress rather than just time spent.

Check the submission portal's file-format requirements during the Research phase, not ten minutes before the deadline.

Use the Midday — Drafting section to batch similar tasks: write all body sections before returning to introductions.

The other layouts in this set

“Assignment Crunch Day” is one of three sheets in this set, each a different fixed layout filled for the same topic. “Exam Revision Day Planner” uses the time-blocked day layout and “Deep Work Study Day” uses the focus page layout. Pick by how you work: the layout decides how much you write and where, not what the sheet is about.
