Day-by-page newborn journal for parents to log feeds, nappies, sleep length, baby's mood, and their own coping notes by hand.

What this sheet is for

The first weeks with a newborn collapse into a blur of feeds and broken nights. This sheet gives you one page per day to capture the numbers that matter — feeds, wet and dirty nappies, longest stretch of sleep — alongside two honest prompts that ask not just how baby is doing but how you are doing. It is designed to be filled in quickly, in pen, at any hour.

How to use it

Start with the four quick-fill fields at the top: count feeds today, wet nappies, dirty nappies, and the longest single sleep stretch in hours and minutes. Use the 1–10 row to rate how settled baby seemed across the day as a whole, with 1 being very unsettled and 10 being calm. The two writing prompts below give you space to note what was genuinely difficult and one small moment of connection. At the foot, the 'One thing to try differently tomorrow' box keeps the page forward-looking rather than just a record.

What is printed on the page

“Newborn Care Daily Notes” is laid out as daily log journal: four quick-fill fields across the top, a 1–10 rating row, two long prompts with generous writing lines, and a 'tomorrow' box at the foot. Under the title it reads “A day-by-day record of feeds, nappies, mood, and how you are coping.”, and the line at the foot of the page says “Tear this page out and bring it to your next health visitor or paediatrician appointment — it answers most of their questions.”.

The field labels slot holds four entries — “Feeds today”, “Wet nappies”, “Dirty nappies” and “Longest sleep” — so the sheet is already filled in for baby rather than left as blank rows to label yourself.

The prompts slot holds two entries — “What felt hardest today — feeding, settling, your own exhaustion, or something else? Describe it honestly.” and “One moment today when you felt connected to your baby, however brief. What were you doing?” — so the sheet is already filled in for baby rather than left as blank rows to label yourself.

The remaining labels on the page are “Date / Baby age” for the date label, “How settled was baby today?” for the rating prompt and “One thing to try differently tomorrow” for the tomorrow prompt.

Two things about this particular daily log journal are settings rather than text, and “Newborn Care Daily Notes” has them set like this. Rating row is on: include the 1–10 rating row. Tomorrow box is on: include the 'tomorrow' box at the foot.

Tips

Fill the four top fields at the end of the day rather than tallying in real time — one daily total is easier to sustain.

If you share care with a partner, each person writes in a different colour so you can see whose observations are whose.

Keep a week of completed pages together; patterns in nappy output or settled scores often show up only across several days.

The other layouts in this set

“Newborn Care Daily Notes” is one of three sheets in this set, each a different fixed layout filled for the same topic. “Baby's First-Year Milestone Log” uses the guided prompts layout and “Baby Sleep & Feed Daily Log” uses the two-column reflection layout. Pick by how you work: the layout decides how much you write and where, not what the sheet is about.
